Tone on Tone

Part of the fun in wedding cake design is the varied taste of the bride and groom. The colors and patterns seem to go in cycles, just like hair and clothing styles. But every now and again you get a fresh twist to old tradition...Caroline and Charles inspired classic magic. And these pictures, shared by Betsy (the Plant Shoppe), and Erin (Celebrations Catering) captured that magic!

Congratulations to Caroline and Charles! Thank you for letting us be your "Sweet Ending to Your Dream Wedding" May you have a lifetime of happiness.

Why We Have Been Out of Touch

John and Jason last year
So, the plan for July was to catch you all up on Fundrasiers, Special Birthday Cakes and of course Weddings we have done. Like I said that was the plan. And when we have a plan we stick to it, that is unless something happens to turn your whole world upside down.

July was supposed to be a fun filled month with Flip Flop and Transformer Birthday cakes, fundraisers to benefit our local community etc. We still did all those things, but it was not how it was supposed to be.

On July 4 I celebrated my birthday with friends and family and my "Flip Flop Beach Birthday cake. It was great fun with fireworks included. My mom even made the flip flops on the cake identical to my Tommy Hilfigers I wear on my feet everyday. Fun was had by all!

Then on July 6 just two days later I received a phone call that no one ever wants to receive. I remember I was at Wal Mart in the return line when my cell phone rang and It was my father-in-law's wife on the other end. I could barely make out her words, but she told me that my father-in-law John, who had just been to my house for our party two days before had died from a massive heart attack.

Talk about shock! No one knew he had heart problems, he wasn't even sick. How was I going to tell Jason his Dad was gone? How was I going to tell my beautiful babies their Grandpa John was not coming back? Needless to say the rest of the month was a blur and family took priority over blogging.

I want to thank those of you who sent cards, flowers and helped with arrangements. It really meant a lot. I know we work together at events but it is nice to know people care when you really need them! So, thank you to everybody and now it is August, and life is kind of getting back to normal for me. I promise the blogs will start coming and hopefully no more tragedies will be in our near future.

Powers Wedding Cake

When we were asked by Susan from Power's Photography to do her daughter's wedding cake we were delighted.

In this industry you make business relationships, get to know vendors and more. We feel like we not only have a business relationship with Power's but also a friendship! It was our pleasure to do Kristin and Taylor's Wedding Cake. The colors were striking, photographs are beautiful as always and Betsy from the Plant Shoppe did an outstanding job with the flowers.

Thanks to Susan we now are offering our Brides an additional icing: Cream Cheese Swirl (our alternative to Buttercream) What do you think?

Baby's 1st Birthday!

The main part of my work is wedding cakes. With only doing one wedding a weekend it really doesn't leave me time for much else. But when special brides call and ask you for shower and birthday cakes there is no way I can deny them. My husband refers to this special group of women as ...my girls. I'll take em!!! It has truly been a joy to be included in their special gatherings.

I met Brandi and Courtney a few years ago. They were dear friends who became sister-in-laws! Wedding cakes, groom cakes, wedding shower cakes, baby shower cakes, and now, the first birthday cake!!!

Isn't that one beautiful, happy family?! I love working with Brandi! She gives me her theme, sends me a pic of the napkins being used and tells me, "work your magic." How fun is that!!!

Erika, Jeff and their precious daughter Alexis came to me with a beautiful and elegant wedding planned. There were some twist and turns in the road, but the ending was storybook!

When Erika contacted me about doing baby Ben's first B-day cake, she asked me if I knew what the Veggie Tales were?! Having a 7 year old granddaughter and a 3 year old grandson, I assured her I knew them all on a first name basis!

Bob, Larry and a French pea, my personal favorite, were chosen as the cakes for Ben's first birthday party!!

I had a blast making these!!!!!! Thank you SOOO much for including me in the fun!

Kristin and Paul are the newbies! They are from Footstone Photography. When Erika needed help with photographing the events of the Gazebo dedication for her dear friends, Heather and Kira, Footstone was right there, ready and willing do to anything that was needed! And what a beautiful job they did!

So when they contacted Erika about a cake for their little Win, I had to say yes! The theme??? "Anything that goes brmmmmm!!" but a blue car would be the top of the list" So a blue car it was. Now, being a discriminating mom, Kristin also ordered our gourmet kake truffles for all the adult guest!

And as the saying goes...a good time was had by all!

KB's wishes you each a bright year filled with love and laughter!!!!! Thanks for allowing me to share in the fun!

Simply Beautiful!

Today was Betty and David's wedding. It was held at
a beautiful farm, the reception was in the barn.
Not any barn mind you!
Melissa, and her staff , of Masterpiece Weddings,
transformed it into one beautiful reception site.

Every detail was perfect, from the gorgeous Spring
flowers to the sparkling crystal. The rain did not
dampen the charm of the farm
or the spirits of the guest.

Plan "B" turned out to be plan "A+"!
The impeccable attention to detail was evident.

The cake was one more reflection of the simple beauty,
the soft sage brush embroidered flowers
and leaves were a perfect compliment to a room
filled with grace and charm.

Another sweet ending to a dream wedding.

Beautiful Images

Photographers are awesome! They can capture a treasured moment for you to forever enjoy! They can make us look better than we really do! And they catalog our journey. So, when I went to my mailbox this week and found a package from Photography 35 I was excited. In it was a kind note and these beautiful images.

I try to take a picture of all my cakes. But to capture the detail of white on white
is often impossible for an amateur.

Congrats to you both! Here's to a long happy marriage!!!

I like this shot!!

Thank you so much to Angel and Gregg Pachkowski,
of Photography 35, for making me look good!

Southern Charm

My last couple of wedding cakes have had a graceful, Southern charm about them...the soft white and lavender creating a subtle color palette. Both brides also picked roses, lavender roses are among some of the most beautiful and fragrant. Romance was in the air.

I really enjoyed working on these cakes, they were a beautiful reflection on two beautiful brides.

Happy Birthday Uncle Lon!

My Dad had one brother, Lon. Now you would have to travel the globe to find a more "unique" individual. He prefers perfection over affection, honesty over niceties, tough as nails, no frills, yet enjoys a conversation with a child. He can tell you everything you need to know about fishing, hunting, and outdoors, yet relishes a good book or a play. So when his 80th birthday was approaching I had to find a way to celebrate with him. He lives in Chicago, and has a great place in the woods of Wisconsin, so...we meet in Nashville.

What do I give the man who is in need of nothing?...a cake of course!! And what better cake for my Uncle Lon than a fish!

He was pleased, I was thrilled.

May this year be a year filled with blue skies and stocked ponds!

Truffle delight!

I do love my job!!! Especially when I get to work with creative, beautiful brides like Francesca! She and Rue went with a gourmet Kake Truffle cake. The results were beautiful. Everyone at the reception site from the caterers to the DJ's were excited. I know their guest were in for a wonderful treat, a decadent diversion from the traditional wedding cake.

You can have your cake, and truffles and be the coolest, chic bride going!!! Your cake will not be one that was forgotten!

Congrats to Francesca and Rue, best wishes for a long and happy marriage!! Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your special day!!
