Mr. and Mrs. Rau's Wedding

As promised we are showcasing another of our happy couple's kreation.

It is not always possible to work with brides in person and on this occasion most of the planning was done via e-mail. Yes it can be done! Jennifer and Nick got married in June and it was such an honor to be a part of their special day.

Everyone has been asking us about this kake so here you go... This gorgeous creation was designed for Nick and Jennifer Rau's wedding, and Kara Pennington took this awesome photograph. Isn't it cool?

"Our cake was nothing short of AMAZING! We are from Virginia and had to do most of the wedding planning from afar. Kathy and Erika were so wonderful to work with and so helpful with all of our questions. Kathy sat down with the two of us and really let us design our dream cake. The end result was better than we ever imagined! My grandmother, mother-in-law, and I are all quilters and Kathy was able to create a quilted tier. We were impressed. The best part was the cake tasted wonderful! Most weddings we had been to the cake was nothing to note but we had so many complements from our guests on the cake; it was amazing. We offered guests to take extra pieces home and nothing was left at the end of the night. Thank you so much for adding a spectacular looking and tasting cake to our wedding!"

8-8-08 Wedding Elizabeth and Jimi

This year there were many couples saying "I Do" on 8-08-08. We had the privilege of creating a Wedding cake design for a special couple on this day. Jimi and Elizabeth were one of many couples getting married on 8-08-08. They were a delight to work with.

Elizabeth wanted to incorporate butterflies and Jimi wanted to make sure that there was an infinity symbol on the cake as well.

We love taking couples ideas and thoughts and creating their cake unique to their personality and styles.

With this cake we had beautiful drapery work, sugar flowers and butterflies, and we incorporated the infinity symbol on each tier and even added little jewels to the centers of the stephanotis flowers. The flavors were our signature wedding white with a filling of a luscious blend of guava and butter cream(yes you can do that!). Even though there were many other colors throughout the reception, Elizabeth told me she wanted the cake to match them and be the centerpiece of the reception, and we aim to please.

"I have to tell you that the cake was awesome. My family couldn't believe it was wedding cake. They said it was too good! I had men tell me it was the best cake they ever tasted. On top of it all the art was beautiful. Thank you again for listening and making such a beautiful piece of art I will always remember!"
~Jimi & Elizabeth

It just goes to show that you can have your gorgeous cake and eat it too! It was such a pleasure to create this work of art for Elizabeth and Jimi.

We wish you a long and happy marriage!

Where would we be without beautiful images?

As I stare at the blank screen, begging me to blog, I find my ideas are as blank as the screen. I have a number of things that I want to blog about but I have no new pictures to share.

It got me thinking about how vital photographers are to ALL the wedding industry, not just the Bride and Groom!

No matter how hard I might try to discribe how beautiful a cake might be , It could never begin to compare to viewing a masterfully produced image from a skilled photographer.

The photographer brings the story to life. Makes our webpages pop, makes our blogs interesting. If we had no images where would we be. I am so grateful for all the help a few photographers continue to give me.

Susan and Stewart, I am humbled and grateful for all you have done and continue to do for me.

Caroline, girl, the ideas you shared and the images you send me have helped me so much.

Jeff and Sabrina, when no one had a clue who I was you were there to help in any way you could.

I am in awe of the process photographers must go through to bring us such beautiful images! After they work hard taking all the pictures they have to view all gazillion of them, pick just the right ones, go through the editing process and then begin the journey to get the images to the people desiring them. So...I gladly wait and realize how very, very, important they are to me. You help us all look good!

You CAN have your cake and eat it too!

I could not sleep last night. So I got up and worked for a few hours then got on the Internet and of course while I was there I needed to check out a few wedding cake forums...

I was so surprised at the number of post concerning taste versus beauty. The brides were serious in asking if their cake should look great or taste great. IT SHOULD BE BOTH! There is no reason that a wedding cake can not be an amazing work of art as well as absolutely delicious! Beyond the beauty and ceremonial cutting...your cake is the dessert that you are serving your guest. It should be the best!

Wedding cakes do not have to be the dreaded dry cake of the past. Research the person you want to create your dream cake. Check out websites, references and ask other vendors. Wedding Expos are also a great opportunity to see their work, taste the cakes and meet them in person.

Show your guest how much you care by serving them a delectable piece of art. Your wedding cake should truly be a beautiful reflection of you and the sweet ending to your dream wedding!

Our passion is to make your dream cake a reality.

Refreshing!

Just plain fun!!! I had a great weekend! I had a fun break from wedding cakes, which are my passion. I had the privilege of making a wedding shower...a lingerie shower, cake for a lucky bride. It had all the makings of a great shower, good food, a awesome cake, and friends who wanted nothing but the best for her!

What made it fun for me, besides the great ladies I got to work with, was the color scheme and license to "have fun with it"! The brides colors are yellow and shimmery dove gray, how refreshing! The invitations were beautiful and I used them as my inspiration. The more I did that more ideas raced in my head. The end product? Fun, fun fun!

Thanks ladies for the joy of making this cake for you! To the lovely bride...my best wishes for a beautiful wedding and blessed marriage.

Little Bits of Honey

Here at KB’s we love weddings!!!

But we also get opportunities to help out in the community. We have participated in several charity events. Our most recent was the Angel’s Dinner on June 20, 2008.

We were honored to create the cake for the annual Angel’s Dinner for the Little Bits of Honey fundraiser. This is an organization that helps families who have lost a baby to S.I.D.S.

The evening was also a Gator Fan’s dream night. We had the privilege of meeting the Gator Head Coaches. What a night!

Thanks to Jenny Jacobs for letting us be a part of this event.

Stay tuned for more updates on weddings and events.

We are so blessed.

Inspiration

This past weekend I was honored to be a part of a beautiful wedding celebration!!!

When I arrived at the reception site to set up the cake Leah and her staff from Celebrations Catering were busy setting up. What a great job! The hall was beautiful, fresh and alive!

The colors were such a refreshing change, black and white with yellow accents. Bowls of fresh, bright yellow lemons with little daisies graced the tables. But what caught my eye were the black chairs. They were stunning... by the way I found out Celebrations Catering rents them! How cool is that?

The room inspired me as I put together the wedding cake. With each added touch it fell more and more in harmony with the room...it became the final touch that completed one beautiful event! A sweet ending to another dream wedding.

Beautiful Options

I have had an idea for a few years...one that I thought was a great...some colleagues and friends laughed. So, I just left it alone to sit in the back of my mind until, until, yesterday!

A representative from The Knot shared that very idea on Rachel Ray's show. The shaky economy and need to save anyway we can, including weddings, has brought my idea to the forefront. And that idea is renting beautiful faux, wedding cakes.

There are a couple of companies that do this, they are out of state and would require shipping both ways...KB's Kake Kreations is here in Gainesville so shipping cost, packaging, a trip to the couriers, worry about breakage or a cake lost in transit is not an issue.

A great deal of money would be saved and no beauty compromised. So I have begun to prefect the logistics of it all and would like to make that an option to my brides.

So when you are considering your wedding cake and the one you want is not in your budget...think again. With this new option, the sky is the limit. Dream on...sweet delectable dreams.

Blessed

This has been cake week at Masterpiece Weddings...It has been an awesome cake week here at KB's also!! Earlier this Spring we were honored to be chosen as the 2oo8 pick, The Knot, best of weddings!!!!! We feel especially blessed knowing that we were chosen by the brides.

We were still pinching ourselves when this week the Fall/Winter edition of The Knot hit the news stands and one of our cakes was featured. A big thanks to a larger than life photography personality, Caroline Johnson, for submitting the cake image with her other beautiful images and story of Amber and Chad's wedding. What a thrill.

We hope your weekend is a great one!! Check us out next week for some more good news and sweet notes....

Welcome!

Well, let me tell ya...I NEVER thought I would be "blogging"! I don't have the special gift to put words together in neat little packages and tie them up with beautiful ribbons and shiny bows like the girls over at Masterpiece Weddings.

But, with their encouragement, nudging, and kind offers to lend assistance I will give it my best shot. So, look for some great pics, insight into some great people, and upcoming events... as for the great blogging??...well, check out Masterpiece Weddings!
