"Eiryn's Super Cool Truffle Cake"

I don't think I have ever had this much fun making a wedding cake...or should I say a wedding truffle cake! I loved every minute of the process. Meeting with Eiryn was a blast! She had fresh bright ideas and every detail of her wedding was planned to perfection... of course she also had the help of the best wedding planners, MasterPiece Weddings! Thank you for the pictures Emily!!

Eiryn brought me one of her gorgeous invitations, designed by none other than Unique Designs! So she was off to a great start. The only problem was the fact that she and Vince did NOT like cake! Well, that was quickly remedied the moment she ate a kake truffle! From that moment on Eiryn referred to her cake as "Eiryn's Super Cool Truffle Cake!" And that it was.

Her reception was a Tuscan dream. The centerpieces were incredible with deep rich colors, grape vines and clusters. Prange's transformed the ball room at the Hilton so beautifully that you would have thought you were in Italy!

Eiryn and Vince chose the decadent Espresso kake truffles which were finished with a touch of bronze displayed like a tiered wedding cake with luscious berries and grapes nestled in. It was a BIG hit!

Thank you SO much Eiryn and Vince for the opportunity to be part of something so very special. May your marriage be a life long celebration of your love!!

What a Raquet !

We LOVE making wedding cakes!!!! But a girl's gotta have some fun too!!!

We were contacted by Phil Pharr from the University of Florida Athletic Association about a birthday cake for his wife who was turning 50. We quickly gathered all the details: Taryn (his wife) played on a tennis team loved cala lilies and pucci fabric.

The custom designed Pucci raquet cake for Taryn!

Thank you Taryn and Phil for letting us be a part of this celebration in your life! We wish you a year filled with blue skies and sunshine!!

Rockin Sweet Sixteen!!!!

Meagan turned 16 and rocked the house with her ROCKIN SWEET SIXTEEN PARTY! How fun!! Her theme was a rock concert and the girls at Masterpiece Weddings did a great job with all the details.

It was a thrill for me to see Meagan get excited over her cake. I had a great time meeting with Meagan and her Mom and Dad. I gathered all the ideas and started sketching. We came up with the basic ideas and design. But I was thrilled when Mark sent me a sketch that Meagan had made. It was SO cool...a triple pink rocking guitar!!

I hope this year will be a great one! Thanks for letting me be a part of your "Rockin Sweet Sixteen" celebration!!!!!!

Let's eat (MORE) Cake!

Remember the old commercials where they tell how a friend tells and friend who tells a friend who tells a friend, and the pictures keep multiplying on the screen. If we each asked a friend to ask a friend to ask a friend for a donation for "Let's eat cake" we may be amazed how the $ would multiply. Big donations are wonderful!!! But all the small ones can add up quick if we just start asking our family, friends and neighbors.

So I challenge you to give $10.00 and ask 10 other people to give $10.00 and so on..... We can help these children with Let's Eat Cake by donating. (That's only two mornings at Starbucks. )

So, there you have it, now the rest is up to you.

"Let's Eat (birthday) Cake!"

While contemplating what more we could do to raise funds for the "Let's eat Cake" fundraiser...my mind drifted to gifts, then gift giving. That really is what it is all about, giving the gift of a healthier life to children suffering with cancer.

Well, Melissa, has a birthday next week. I have wondered, and wondered what to get her for a birthday gift. SO...I decided to give a donation to "Let's Eat Cake" in her honor. Now, if we all did that just think of the results!! It would be a win win situation all around!!!

Please help me make Melissa's birthday her happiest one ever!!!!!!!

Let's Eat Cake!

Won't you Please help us?!?!

I got up at 5:00 AM this morning and turned on my computer, as usual to check out the blogs!, and prepared to start my day! But when I read Melissa's blog I stopped and did a U turn. I gave prayerful consideration how to help the children suffering with cancer at St. Judes.

I remember where I was when Melissa called me to tell me about her dream...and it was still a dream at that point. I was in the produce section of Publix, trying to hurry and finish my shopping. The more she shared the more distracted I was from apples and asparagus! I was excited, supportive, and proud to of what Melissa wanted to accomplish. She asked if I would participate and of course I said " YES!" But I want to do more to help than just be excited, supportive and participate.

I thought immediately of all the beautiful inspiration boards that are posted regularly on the Masterpiece Wedding blog...I would do my first inspiration board. I want it to be an inspiration and I am not very good with things like this so the first call went to Erika. I gave her my ideas, and she spent the morning making them a reality. Look at those faces!!! We all have to help.

Melissa put her money where her mouth is. I must do the same. I will donate 10% of all my wedding cake sales for the month of February. Please give prayerful consideration to what you can do...and then follow through. Thank you!

We Love Our Clients!!!

You all recall our "Baby Gator" cake. Well here is what Donna Shively had to say:

Kathy & Erika-
You two did an AMAZING job creating this cake for me. It was so much fun to work with you both and also see your minds just work on putting together a great cake for me and for the shower. Everyone loved it and thought it was so impressive. The baby gators were such a unique touch and I know you guys worked very hard on making all of those baby gators by hand. Thank you so much! The shower was also a bunch of fun. For any of you wondering if you can pull of a baby shower and tailgate party at the same time, you definitely can. We had such a blast! KB Kakes, I can't wait for you to do my next cake I will be in need for. You are so creative and so much fun to work with.

Thanks a bunch!
Donna Shively

We Love you Donna, and can't wait for your next event.

Happy Birthday Kristin!!

IT'S YOUR BIRTHDAY!!!!!!
We are blessed with 2 beautiful daughters. Many of you know Erika...my right hand! I would not get half as much done, nor nearly as efficiently with out Erika's drive and persistance. Thank you Erika!!! But most of you have not met her "little sister" Kristin. Kristin's smile can chase away your blues and warm your heart on the coldest of days.

Kristin has had her eye on a black and gray Dooney and Bourke purse. So when her husband planned a little surprise party Erika suggested I make a "cake" purse. The results were FUN! It turned out so well that her guest did not realize it was a cake! Kristin was fooled for a minute. She said when she walked in the door she wondered why someone had put her purse on a plate! The delicious results made for some interesting conversation.

Kristin, we wish you a year filled with love and laughter and nothing but blue skies! Thank you for touching our lives and warming our souls. God bless you always!

In Loving Memory

Today is the 2nd anniversary of the death of two special girls in our lives. Heather and Kira Radcliffe were murdered in their home on December 9, 2006. Their killer is still out there, free to kill again. Please pray for the their family and friends and that their murderer will be brought to justice.

Kira and Layla at Sesame Street Live 2006

Heather was Erika's best friend and Kira her God-daughter and Layla's best friend. We miss them and our thoughts and prayers go out to their family and friends everyday, but especially today.

The little fruit cake

A short time ago I got a call from a dear friend in California. He said his daughter was getting married and wanted me to make her wedding cake. My friend, Peter is from Australia and their traditional wedding cake is fruit cake with a marzipan covering. Peter's mom, the brides grandmother, had recently passed away and this was a way to honor her. Peter shared with me that his brother was driving from Naples to LA the next week and could bring the cake out with him. I was in the middle of hosting a large Mother/Daughter tea when I got the call so I told Peter I would see what I could do. I started my research and the more I found the more I realized this was a long process and we would not be able to send the cake by car the next week.

After cutting and dredging all the fruit and making my "lacing sauce" I put the cakes in the oven with high hopes. They smelled incredible and I hoped that the process would lead to one perfect wedding cake for Emily. Every 4 or 5 days I would brush the lacing sauce on the cake and carefully wrap it up. After the 3rd week I carefully unwrapped my new friends, they felt like part of the family by now! I covered them in marzipan and sealed all the edges with royal icing. I wanted to make sure that there was no way for any of the yummy goodness to leak out onto the decorations. They next day I draped the cake and decorated it, complete with handmade sugar orchids.

I took a few pictures and e-mailed them to Emily...the response was immediate. A phone call confirmed her delight! Now, I just had to get the cake to California in perfect condition. A few more phone calls and coordinating schedules and the cake was ready for a long trip!

It first traveled by car to Naples, FL then four days later it headed for the airport. I put the top tier in one carrier and the bottom tier in another. Peter's brother Colin and wife Sherri started their cross country journey in the security line with their special carry ons. Each time the cakes were placed on the belt to be examined the story was told of how they had to get the cake to LA for their nieces wedding. The trip was amazing! Each security personnel, flight attendant and even the pilots all were extremely attentive. I waited anxiously for the phone call...would the cake make it and would they be able to put the cake together, were my instructions clear enough? Finally the call came in. "The cake arrived absolutely perfect and it was the talk of the wedding!" Yeah!!!! What a relief, what a thrill to be part of something so special.

The Ultimate Baby Gator Shower/Tailgating Party

What do you get when you combine a Couples Baby Shower and a tailgating party for Gator fans?

Give up?

You get Donna Shively as hostess, KB's Kake Kreations providing an awesome Baby Gator cake complete with gourmet baby gator onesie cookies and a whole lot of fun, not to mention incredible pictures taken by Caroline Johnson and custom made invitations created by who else but, Unique Designs.

This Kreation was inspired by invitations created by Unique Designs. I think we captured the dream if I say so myself.

Donna was so much fun to work with. We here at KB's Kake Kreations love it when our clients give us full authority to go crazy with details. So, let me break this down for you:

This kake was kreated for little Rykar. Isn't that such a cool name?

With the theme of baby gators and colors of pastel but shiny blue and orange:
We started with the pastel baby blue, complete with baby footprints for the outside of the cake and even orange little footballs for the border.
In the middle on a U.F. baby blanket played a number of "baby gators" each hand crafted. Some were playing, some had pacifiers and even bottles.
We continued this theme around the bottom of the cake as well and topped it off with a big Baby Gator and yes, the whole cake was shiny to match the invitations.

Here is the best part that the pictures do not show, the inside was an orange dreamsicle.
We carried this theme and color scheme throughout the entire cake.

Congratulations Tami and David on your upcoming arrival of Baby Gator "Rykar Houston"! It was an honor to be a part of this joyous celebration.
